A Historic Courthouse Renovation.

To celebrate its 125th anniversary, the 1899 Cass County Courthouse was transformed into the new County Administrative Offices, seamlessly blending historic preservation with modern functionality. The renovation honors the courthouse’s heritage while creating a vibrant space that reflects the county’s agriculture, lakes, and forests.

Key features, lost in a 1970s renovation, were restored to bring back the building’s original character. A striking three-story open stair was reintroduced to restore the central circulation core, and a new public entryway, replicating the original arched design, invites visitors into a space full of history. The limestone façade, with its ornate carvings, proudly showcases the craftsmanship of the past.

Inside, history comes alive through two feature walls—one on the second floor showcasing the building’s restored architectural elements like original wood columns and tin ceilings, and another on the third floor telling the wider story of Cass County’s community. The newly restored Cass County Chamber Room on the third floor serves as a space for public meetings and honors the courthouse’s legacy.

A bold mission statement in the stairwell reflects the building’s purpose as both a modern workplace and a community landmark. The restored Commissioners’ Chambers and uncovered central dome tie the entire courthouse together, offering a space that celebrates Cass County’s past while looking to the future.

This renovation isn’t just about preserving a building—it’s about creating a timeless space that reflects the heart and spirit of Cass County.
